Fine. Right Now.

Been Sitting All Day? Fine.

Apparently we're standing now. Your hips have been folded in half since this morning and your shoulders are somewhere near your ears. This undoes a little of that. Nothing fancy, nothing sweaty.

No account required.

Fine. Right Now.

Here's something reasonable.

6 moves No equipment
The Rusty Robot — Lower Edition
Ankle circles, knee circles, hip circles — 10 each direction. Then 2 minutes slow walking. Your joints are about to do hinge work and they need to be warm.
The Empty-Handed Hinge
Feet hip-width, hands on your hips. Push your hips back like you're about to sit in a chair behind you, keeping your back flat, then stand back up. No weight yet -- just the pattern.
Modification: This one's meant to feel almost too easy. If it doesn't, slow it down further before you add any weight to The Ground Lift or The Long Hinge.
The Big Step
Stand tall. Step one foot forward. Back knee lowers toward the ground. Front knee stays over the ankle. Push back to standing. Alternate legs each rep.
Modification: Shorten the step range if the knee objects. Take the step only as far as comfortable. Still a lunge. Still counts.
Tip Toes
Stand with feet hip-width apart. Rise up onto your toes as high as you can. Hold one second at the top. Lower slowly. Do this near a wall in case balance gets interesting.
Modification: Hold a wall or counter throughout. Reduce range of motion if ankles are stiff — any elevation works.
The Chest Opener
Stand in a doorway. Place both forearms on the frame. Lean gently forward until you feel your chest open. Hold 20 seconds. Roll your shoulders back 3 times slowly. Walk around for 2 minutes.
The Slow Unload
Feet hip-width, weights already put away. Let your upper body hang forward, knees soft, arms relaxed toward the floor. Hold, breathing slowly, then roll back up one vertebra at a time.
Modification: Bend your knees as much as you need to -- this isn't a flexibility test. A few inches of fold still counts.

Stop if something hurts in a way that isn't just “ugh.” Got a medical reason to be careful? Check with someone who knows you first.

Know somebody else who's been in a chair since 8 a.m.? Send them this.
